Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate employees' perception on trust, equality and healthy communication in relationships while participating in CoP activities and identify the influence of the said variants on intrinsic motivation and participation in CoPs. An empirical study was carried out on CoPs at domestic companies to find out the influence of trust, power and communication among members on intrinsic motivation and participation. The research found out that: First, gender, position and job did not decisively impact the challenges that members experience while participating in the company's CoP activities such as difficulties in building trust, unequal power relations and communication barriers. Second, intrinsic motivation for CoPs was directly influenced by the level of trust among members than the perception on their members as equals. Third, effective communication among members while performing CoP activities directly impacted CoP participation. In conclusion, the study confirmed that among three variantsㅡi.e. CoP members' perception on trust, power and communicationㅡa high level of trust and effective communication between colleagues positively impacted CoP participation.
