Abstract

Recently, motivation has been reconceptualized based on Self-Determination Theory (SDT). This approach classifies motivations based on the different levels of autonomy. It also extended the previous concept of motivation. The current study utilized the subconstructs (i.e., amotivation, external regulation, introjected regulation, identified regulation, integrated regulation, intrinsic motivation) of BRSQ (Lonsdale, et al., 2008) which was based on SDT to measure the motivation of highschool dancers (n=586) and to examine the construct validity of the structured model of BRSQ. The results partly supported the validity of BRSQ. Through an exploratory factor analysis, 15 items were loaded on three different factors which showed a discrepancy with previous literature. The results of a confirmatory factor analysis produced the fit indices of TLI=.906, and RMSEA=.078 that indicated a fair fit. A further discussion on the validation of BRSQ and on how the subconstructs of BRSQ work as the motivation of dancing is included.
