Abstract
본 연구는 미중 전략경쟁이 심화되는 안보 환경 속에서 아세안 국가들의 헤징 양상을 분석하고, 이를 촉진시키는 요인들에 대해 분석한다. 이를 위해 본 연구는 우선 제도적 균형 차원에서 나타나는 미중 양국의 동아시아 안보아키텍쳐에 대한 접근 방식과 아세안에 대한 관여 현황을 살펴보고, 이러한 접근의 기저에 존재하는 양국의 지역전략을 논의한다. 이를 바탕으로 본 논문은 아세안 국가들의 헤징을 촉발시키는 전략적 불확실성의 요인으로서 헤테라키 차원의 다극화 및 미국, 중국과 아세안 국가들의 군사력 격차를 지적하며, 이러한 차원에서 아세안 헤징 차원에서 시도하는 군사외교가 확대되고 있음을 보여준다. 이러한 헤징의 확대는 궁극적으로 역내 안보아키텍쳐의 양극화로 이어질 것이라 전망하며, 역내 전략적 불확실성은 더욱 확대될 것으로 예측한다.
