Abstract

Thoracic surgery in elderly patients is only possible due to top level anesthesiology support. The article presents the results of using VATS lobectomy for the treatment of lung cancer in elderly patients. Aim was to acquaint the physicians of various specialties with the experience of the clinic of the use of VATS in elderly lung cancer patients. Methods and study results. The study group consisted of 24 patients aged from 70 to 86 years. There were 9 (37.5 %) women, 15 (62.5 %) men. Most often, patients underwent VATS upper lobectomy on the right and on the left � 7 (29.1 %) cases, respectively. 19 (79.1 %) were diagnosed with adenocarcinoma. The level of intraoperative complications was 3 (12.5 %), postoperative complications � 5 (20.8 %) cases. The overall effectiveness of VATS lobectomy with mediastinal lymphodissection in the elderly was 95.5 %. Conclusion. The article provides arguments in favor of the fact that VATS lobectomy for lung cancer in the elderly is the operation of choice due to low trauma and high efficiency.
