Abstract

The study results of the protective (barrier) properties of oxide and nitride coatings against the penetration of hydrogen during the thermal hydrogen treatment (THT) are summarized and the formation regularities of the linearly changing gradient structure of the VT6 titanium alloy are established. It has been found out that the finely dispersed (α + β) — structure on the surface formed as a result of THT provides increased strength properties, and the large-lamellar structure in the center provides high impact strength. It is shown that plates made of VT6 alloy of 12.5 mm thick with the linearly varying gradient structure demonstrate good dynamic resistance when fired with 5.45 mm and 7.62 mm jacketed bullets with a steel core.
