Abstract

This dissertation deals with the application of machine learning in 5G networks as well as in optical networks. In the first stage, some introductory concepts of 5G networks and optical networks in general have been developed, each of which describes these networks as well as some references to their applications and the issues they face. It is then developed that machine learning influences the solution of modern problems in these networks by developing the purposes, capabilities, services, challenges and performance of the respective communication networks such as 5G and optical networks in general. Next, an introduction is made to machine learning in general and its purpose, as well as to the types of networks and their applications. We should also mention the fact that a general reference is made to cloud computing and its architecture. In addition, in the main chapter of this dissertation there is an extensive reference to the applications of machine learning and how they are used in 5G networks and optical networks, giving some examples. Finally, the last chapter provides an overview of the diploma and what conclusions are drawn for the application of machine learning in 5G networks and optical networks.
