Abstract

In this report, the adsorption of the mine gas by Joban and Ube coals are determined and the differences between these coals and Hokkaido coals, which are of higher rank, are discussed. The results are as follows;(1) The volume of gas adsorbed by Joban and Ube coals is smaller than that by Hokkaido coals.(2) The volume of gas adsorbed is inversely proportional to the fuel ratio respectively in Hokkaido and Joban-Ube coals and it is observed that there are two different inclinations of these: two coal sorts.(3) Calculating the volume adsorbed by ash free coals, it is confirmed that the ash contents of coals are not responsible for this difference.(4) On the ignition temperature of Joban and Ube coals, no influence of the adsorption of the mine gas are observed.(5) It is assumed that the difference between these two coal sorts is due to the geological conditions under which they were formed.
