Abstract

The magnetic dynamic vibration absorber in which a repelling force acting between the same poles of rare-earth magnets is used as a function of spring has the unsymmetrical nonlinear characteristics. This paper presents the analytical study on the dynamic behavior of this absorber and the results of the numerical calculations are in good agreement with those of the digital simulation. The characterstics clarified are concluded as follows. (1) When the moving magnet is suspended by the repelling forces on its top and bottom, the frequency response curves take the remarkable hard spring character. (2) When the moving magnet is suspended by a repelling force on its bottom face only, the frequency response curves change their form gradually from the soft spring character to the hard spring one according to the growth of the amplitude. (3) If the damping is negligible both in the main system and in the absorber, the strong exciting force produces occasionally the almost periodic vibration with modulated amplitude.
