Abstract

The conditions and procedure for conducting experimental studies to determine the performance of the dynamic characteristics of the BTR-4E and BTR-4K armored personnel carriers with different power units have been presented. Dynamic characteristics of armored personnel carriers BTR-4E and BTR-4K with different power plants have been determined. The ways of improving the dynamics of armored wheeled vehicles have been proposed.Experimental studies have been carried out to determine the dynamics of the BTR-4E and BTR-4K with the 3TD-3A and DEUTZ BF6M1015CP power units. The analysis of the use of the first batch of new BTR-4E vehicles with 3TD-3A power units during combat operations in the area of the combined forces operation revealed a number of shortcomings, namely:– significant masking machine sound;– considerable time to prepare the machine for launch (15-20 minutes), especially when working at low temperatures, which significantly reduces the survivability of the machine in modern combat conditions;– low power of the power plant and its low operating costs, especially when using military equipment for military repair in field conditions.Based on experimental studies, it was concluded that the use of a particular power plant for BTR-4E linear armored personnel carriers and their modifications requires a comprehensive, scientifically based approach to choosing the most rational one.One of the promising areas for improving the dynamics of wheeled vehicles, including armored personnel carriers, should be considered the use of hybrid electromechanical drive wheels, the use of which would: increase efficiency; increase the intensity of torque increase and the rapid change in thrust at the wheels in size and direction, which will allow you to change quickly not only the linear speed of movement, but also perform various maneuvers (crab movement, turning in place, etc.), ensure the secret (silent) mode of movement when using the electric drive from the electric energy of the batteries when the thermal engine is not running.
