Abstract

Culture is at the center of Europe's rich heritage and history and plays an important role in enhancing the attractiveness of places and highlighting the uniqueness of a site.. It is also a key driver for increasing tourism revenue, with cultural tourism evolving into one of the fastest growing tourism sectors in the world. As a result of the above, the E.U. through its development programs promoted the protection and preservation of cultural heritage, the development of cultural infrastructure and the improvement of cultural services. The purpose of this dissertation is initially the presentation of the NSRF 2007 – 2013, which was an important tool for development both more broadly and in relation to the field of Culture, for the protection and promotion of cultural heritage. In addition, the dissertation will present the monuments of the Region of Central Greece, which were included and the relevant actions implemented, for their promotion and maintenance, in this program. Although these monuments are recorded in the bibliography and in the Archaeological Bulletins of the Ephorates of Antiquities of the Region of Central Greece, this recording concerns the work of each Ephorate separately. Therefore, this dissertation will highlight, as a whole, the work of the Ephorates of Antiquities of the Region of Central Greece, in the axes of priorities 58: Protection and preservation of cultural heritage and 59: Development of cultural infrastructure, in total. Finally, through quantitative and qualitative research, it is attempted to evaluate the NSRF as a tool for the protection and promotion of monuments, to highlight any problems that arose during the implementation and completion of the projects as well as the current state of the monuments.
