Abstract

The objective of this study is to predict the hydrodynamic torque generated in 3 - axis eccentric butterfly valve. The diameter of the butterfly valves used in this study is 20 inch. However, due to the large size of the valve, it is difficult to build a test facility. To solve this problem, the 20 inch valve has been scaled down to 12 inch. The results of the scaled down valve was compared with the 12 inch valve study performed previously. In the case of Cv, both 20 inch and scale down 12 inch valves had constant values regardless of mass flow rate and pressure. In addition, the hydrodynamic torque decreases as the opening degree is increased in all the valves. Finally, the hydrodynamic torque coefficient was compared to show similar behaviors as the previous results. Therefore, we determined that flow characteristics and hydrodynamic torque are predicted using 20 inch valve analysis model.
