Abstract

The seasonal change of dissolved oxygen was studied in the Misaka river in Maniwa-gun, Okayama Prefecture, during the thirteen months from August 1948 to September 1949. This river flows out from a hill of an altitude of 583.3 meters, running down southwards and joins the Asahi river. The temperatures, the amounts of dissolved oxygen and the hydrogen-ion concentrations of the water were measured at six sampling stations (fig, 1). The amount of dissolved oxygen decreases in the lower course as the water temperature increases (fig. 2). At all the sampling stations the oxygen dissolved in the river water attains a maximum quantity in February and a minimum in July. The pH is usually 7.5 in the upper and 7.0 in the lower course, its seasonal change being rather little.
