Abstract
The activity of correctional labor institutions in the Tomsk Region in 1953-1964 was subjected to certain changes caused by the alteration in the domestic policy. In general, the Soviet penitentiary system remained unchanged, the priority was the fulfillment of production tasks, carrying out activities aimed at the criminals’ reformation, and raising their educational level. The regime of detention, health and living conditions of the inmates were inspected on a regular basis.
