Abstract

The article considers the course and results of the campaign on commercial grain procurement in 1922/23 in the USSR. It was found out that the supply of grain this year exceeded the demand. The state was preparing for commercial purchases, establishing a number of large procurement organizations in the summer of 1922. Their tasks included harvesting the maximum possible amount of grain products on the market and thereby limiting the scope of private capital activity. However, these plans actually failed. State-backed procurement organizations were unable to compete with private traders. Most of the grain sold on the market fell into the hands of private owners.
