Abstract

The image of the wreath is an important element, uniting the poems of Teffi, in the collection “The Seven Lights”. Within the framework of this book, it has quite definite connotative meanings and in many poems it is a plot-forming element. From the point of view of the plot, the wreath is a detail that determines the possibility of reuniting or parting with the lyric heroine with her lover. Through this uniting image, the love theme intersects with the theme of creativity. The book of Teffi’s poems is a complex system that at various levels implements the metaphor «book-wreath», originated in ancient literature. The collection consists of cycles, woven by the author of their poems. The poetic environment of Teffi is connected with symbolic poets, in their work there is a comparison of poetry with plant symbols, each author has different meanings of the same sign-symbol. On the one hand, Teffi heavily relies on Balmont’s poetic works as a standard, and on the other hand he argues with the work of Andrei Bely, revealing the ironic mode of her poems. The article considers how the wreath sets the motif of weaving, which manifests itself at different levels of the text: phonetic, linguistic, composition-syntactic, structural.
