Abstract
The article describes the results of the Russian archaeological excavations near the Church of the Holy Sepulchre (1883). The author analyses the discussion regarding the discovery of the Threshold of the Judgement Gate, examines the views of K. Schick, V. N. Khitrovo, B. P. Mansurov. Relevance of the study is conditioned by the fact that the Russian presence in Palestine is comprehensively examined in the historical aspect; the results of the archaeological excavations are analysed from the viewpoint of the modern Biblical archaeology. Originality of the study involves a comparative analysis of the views of all the participants of the discussion regarding the discovered artefacts.
