Abstract
The article examines the conditions of the Russian Compound construction in Jerusalem. The relevance of the study is determined by the necessity to fill the existing gaps in the history of the Russian architectural activity in the Holy Land in 1860-1864 and to trace the role of the Eppinger brothers and Boris Pavlovich Mansurov in building the Russian constructions. The originality of the study lies in the complex analysis of the architectural heritage of Russia in Palestine, in determination of the functional and spatial specifics of the created monuments. The analysis shows that the construction of the Russian Compound helped to strengthen Russia’s influence in the Christian East.
