Abstract

The contribution of the Δ(1232) isobar to the (γ, p) interaction at intermediate energies has been investigated using a simple model. In the case of 16O(γ, p) 15N g.s., this effect is shown to be large for photon energies above about 150 MeV and is predicted to produce a significant contribution to differential cross sections. This effect may have already been seen in recent 16O(γ, p) experiments.
