Abstract

This paper describes pre-treatment and analytical method for determination of deterioration of silicone rubber housing for outdoor insulator. Washing with water and MIBK (Methyl-iso-butyl ketone) by ultrasonic washer was most effective to remove contaminant deposited on the surfaces of the housing. μ-FT-IR (Fourier transform infrared spectrophotometer equipped with infrared microscope) gave valuable information to determine the deterioration of the housing surfaces. It could make to analyze decreasing of ATH (ahnina tri-hydrate) in the silicone rubber specimens soaked in nitric acid, and surface oxidation of the specimens tested by fluorescent UV-condensation type weathering tester.
