Abstract
The effect of Zeolite on physicochemical properties of the soils was studied by applying different amounts of Zeolite to several soils of crop land. The result was found as follows: Soil reaction and free iron content in soils were not affected, where as, soluble silica was slightly increased by applying a large amount (80g/kg) of Zeolite. Cation exchange capacity (CEC), Hygroscopic coeffient, Moisture holding capacity and Moisture availability of the soils were increased with increase of amount of Zeolite applied, although Moisture holding capacity and Moisture availability of the soils were not so appreciably increased. The effect of Zeolite was increased with decrease of clay content in soils. On the basis of the results, it was suggested that Zeolite could be applied mixing with fertilizer, to sandy and silty soils of low cation exchange capacity for the purpose of decreasing nutrient loss of fertilizer applied, but not be used for the sole purpose of increasing moisture holding capacity and moisture availability of the soils. Field experiments with differernt kinds of crop are needed for the economical appraisal on Zeolite application to crop land.
