Abstract

This study aims to concretely investigate the crisis of the exhibition industry that has suffered sudden changes and damage due to COVID-19 for the past year through a case study focused on Coex, Korea’s representative exhibition center and propose tasks overcoming the crisis of the domestic exhibition industry. To effectively achieve the research purpose, this study prepared objectivity as much as possible, securing the progress of the domestic exhibition industry related to COVID-19 during the past year through diversified sources such as document information, records, and direct observations, etc. Based on the secured materials, this study longitudinally investigated a series of the progress of the domestic exhibition industry for the past year from the occurrence of the first confirmed case of COVID-19 through the cancellation of exhibitions to the resumption of exhibitions according to social distancing and guidelines for the prevention of epidemics, focusing on Coex. Based on this case analysis, this study proposed six tasks of domestic exhibition industry to overcome the COVID-19 crisis, including digital convergence, integrated control tower building, industry awareness improvement, data management, re-establishment of the public functions of exhibition centers, and the strengthening of organizational competency.
