Abstract

Properties of heavy hypernuclei are studied in the context of a chiralLagrangian which successfully describes ordinary nuclei.Λ-Σ0 mixing arises from non-diagonal vertices inflavour space induced by the vector mesons and by a phenomenologicalcoupling in the isoscalar channel.The set of Dirac equations for the coupled hyperon system is discussed.Results are presented for energy spectra and electromagnetic propertiesofΛ hypernuclei. Our analysis suggests that flavourmixing can lead to sizeable changes in the magnetic moments.We also examine the impact of the flavour mixing on the width of aΛ in the nuclear environment.
