Abstract

The author of the article considers to which extent the famous Russian translator of Shakespeare’s sonnets, A. M. Finkel, managed to reproduce the connecting function of flora images. The translation of the full cycle of Shakespeare’s poems, which has been highly appreciated by the leading researchers of Shakespeare’s sonnets and their Russian translations, was the material for this analysis. The aim of the work was to study the peculiarities of the translator’s interpretation of the plant images that are important for Shakespeare in creating the theme of beauty in his sonnets. In the course of the research, a number of translator’s digressions from the original text, giving the theme of beauty new semantic nuances, were found out.
