Abstract

Recently regional offices of education are continuously increasing support for teachers’ learning communities, which can lead to improving teaching capacity. Because existing domestic research has been carried out by observing teachers’ learning communities from outside the class, they have had limitation to show how to strengthen teaching capacity through a teacher learning community of class exploration. Therefore, this researcher participating in teachers’ learning community as one of community members, this study aims to reveal that teachers’ learning community about ‘English Books Reading’ in a high school located in Daejeon contributes to strengthen teachers’ teaching capacity. As a result of this study, mutual partnership between teachers through their community activities like book debates is built up based on horizontal relation, which leads to their effort for strengthening teaching capacity. In addition, teachers can naturally exchange feedback about teaching in teachers’ learning community. In particular, the study shows that the topic setting related to a school curriculum and feature and the role and position of teacher leaders are all essential to the community function.
