Abstract
The development of vertical conveyors which convey granular material continuously is widely desired in many fields of industry. If the vertical double-belt conveyor is developed and put into practical use, material conveyance in such fields asmining and co nstruction will be remarkably rationalized. This investigation is carried out in order to obtain the performance data of the vertical double-belt conveyor. Coal and wet sand are conveyed by an experimental apparatus of the vertical double-belt conveyor and the conveying capacity and the tractive force are measured. The apparatus has two endless belts which are pressed against each other by troughing carrying idlers, which are setalternately and have off sets from one another to press the belts effectively. The trough angle and the degree of offsets can be changed. The main results obtained in this investigation are as follows;1) Continuous vertical conveyance of granular material by the vertical double-belt conveyor is possible.2) The capacity of the vertical double-belt conveyor is proportional to the belt speed. For the experimental apparatus, which has 30cm-wide belts, the proportional coefficients are 10 and 20 (t/h)/(m/s) for coal and wet sand respectively.3) Wh en the apparatus runs without material between the belts, the tractive force increases with the increase of the belt tension, the degree of offset and the trough angle, and slightly increases with the increase of the belt speed.4) When the apparatus conveys material, additional tractive force, which increases with the increase of the weight of material per unit length of the belt, is necessary.5) The tractive force which is necessary for the net work of lifting material is about 6% of the additional tractive force when coal is conveyed, and about 7% for wet sand.
