Abstract

In historical science the term Anglo-German refers to the phenomenon of the last third of the 19th — early 20th centuries which was based on naval confrontation between the UK and Germany. In fact, it was during the arms race of the naval type, started by Germany on the program of the German Grand Admiral A. von Tirpitz. In response the United Kingdom launched the modernization of the Navy in order to maintain control over their maritime possessions. This confrontation of the naval character began as a result of the collision of geopolitical interests of the two empires, and continued until the First World War. Nevertheless, the signs of antagonism played an important role in British propaganda before and during the military conflict. The author aims to consider the Anglo- German in British propaganda during World War I period. The main task of the author is to give a comprehensive analysis of the phenomenon and to distinguish the interrelated plots used in the propaganda on the formation of the image of the enemy in relation to Germany. The author researches the history of the UK in order to characterize the first manifestations of antagonism. It can be concluded that the signs of the Anglo-German were the backbone of the British propaganda during the First World War. The priority of the UK government was to fight against the German naval forces so the agitators focused on protecting of the country from the threat of German invasion.DOI 10.14258/izvasu(2017)2-35
