Abstract

The history of countering Russian aggression on the state border of Ukraine is studied. The purpose of the article is to generalize the historical experience of opposing the «hybrid war» of the Russian Federation against Ukraine at the state border. The research methodology is based on the application of analytical, chronological, historical-systemic methods, which made it possible to determine the stages at which the border institution of Ukraine countered «hybrid» aggression on the state border, as well as measures, problems and ways to solve them. The scientifi c novelty of the obtained results lies in the comprehensive approach to the problem under investigation, which made it possible to generalize the historical experience of countering Russian aggression on the state border. In the histori-cal realities of Ukraine, «hybrid war», despite its diff erence from traditional ideas about the nature of military confrontation, is directly related to the security of the state border. For the Ukrainian state, the Russian aggression began precisely from the border territory, where the Russian Federation used the methods of «hybrid warfare». Subsequently, all the characteristic features of the «hybrid war» mani-fested themselves precisely on the border territories. Conclusions. «Hybrid war» confi rmed the change in the character of modern armed confl icts, in conditions of which it is impossible to conduct an armed struggle using traditional military methods. The hybrid nature of Russian aggression proved the urgent need for deep study, comprehensive justifi cation and immediate implementation of appropriate changes in the structure, functions and powers of the subjects of the national secu-rity system, which includes the security of the state border. Taking into account the historical experience should become a real process in the context of the implemen-tation of the state decisions defi ned in the strategic documents that determine the reforms of the security and defense sector of the state.
