Abstract

Color is a decisive attribute in preference of an image. Digital image products manufacturers are putting much efforts in adjustments of colors to improve the preference and satisfaction of customers, and therefore image reproducing devices should reproduce preferred colors rather than the real colors. The colors that customers remember about an object(memory color) is a critical factor. This study surveyed to classify memory colors and preferred colors in reproduced images of sky, grass and neutral colors, and analyzed correlations between the two classified colors. Analyzed results show that memory colors and preferred colors have similar patterns, and adjusting images using memory colors increase preference. Increasing brightness and saturation in grass colors and sky colors also increase preference, and the difference between memory colors and the real colors is wide in the following order, grass colors, sky colors and neutral colors. The results of this study should contribute to enhance color preferences substantially in digital imaging devices.
