Abstract

The paper aims to analyze clothing conspicuous consumption which is defined as a way to attract other's attention and self distinction through clothing consumption. The research method was survey and the sample included 272 high school students in Shahrood city, Iran. The result showed that the clothing conspicuous consumption is the interactive and concurrent effect of social status, gender, age, religiosity, the expectations of important others, and advertisements. The authors concluded that clothing conspicuous consumption is caused not by only single but multiple factors that affect interactively and concurrently among which social status, the expectations of important others and advertisements are of more significance.
