Abstract

The article analyses the speeches of two politicians - the current USA President Donald Trump and former President Barack Obama. The researcher examines the notions “President” and “speech portrait”, considers thematic originality and key words of both Presidents’ inauguration speeches, verbal means of persuasion. The analysis allowed the author to conclude on Donald Trump’s and Barack Obama’s speech portraits. The study showed that in political speeches, increasing verbal influence is achieved due to the thoughtful choice of expressive means, and the manipulative function is an integral element of political discourse.
