Abstract

A total of 975 groups of homonyms are included in Modern Chinese Dictionary. There are various ways to interpret them in the dictionary. There are rules to follow, but there are still some places to consider. Homonyms can be produced in dialects, disyllabic words, transliteration words, onomatopoeia, the development of word meaning and even the use of traditional Chinese characters and variant characters. There are 519 groups of homonyms with different characters. Among them, 231 groups have morphological differences, accounting for 45%; 56 groups have phonetic differences, accounting for about 10%; 232 groups have no differences in form and sound symbols, accounting for about 45%.
