Abstract

The importance of local residents" participation is increasing to solve various social problems arising from the rapidly changing social environment and revitalize local services. In order to encourage active participation of local residents, social capital (network, norms, trust) and community attachment are needed. In response, the purpose of this study is to identify the relationship between social capital, community attachment, and community participation in urban-rural complex areas where each characteristics coexist. Hypotheses were established through theoretical consideration, and data were collected through surveys. A total of 158 questionnaires were collected, 150 of which were selected as samples for analysis using the statistical program SPSS 21.0. The results of the analysis showed that the networks, norms, and trust factors that make up social capital have a positive impact on community attachment and community participation. Moreover, community attachment had a positive impact on community participation. The results of this study suggest the need for social capital to improve the level of community attachment and community participation in urban-rural complex areas.
