Abstract

Objective. To study the platelet aggregation and level of von Willebrand factor in patients with osteoarthritis of the knee in the treatment with meloxicam. Materials and Methods. The study included 21 patients with osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee II stage according to the Kellgren-Lawrence. The control group consisted of 15 healthy individuals. The survey was carried out for 10 days before and after treatment. During the research period Meloxicam was administered in a dose of 15 mg 1 time per day orally. All-clinical studies, questionnaires, optical agregatometry were held. Results. After the treatment, patients experienced a significant increase in the degree of platelet aggregation with ADP and collagen (p≤0,05), the degree of aggregation with thrombin remained significantly increased in comparison with the control group (p≤0,05). Von Willebrand factor was significantly increased after the treatment. Conclusions. A long-term use of NSAIDs (Meloxicam) may enhance platelet function and level of von Willebrand factor, which can lead to disruption of vascular endothelial function and increased thrombosis.
