Abstract

Protein A reacts with the Fc region of IgG from many mammalian species. Immobilized protein A has been recently used for immunoadsorbent therapy in breast adenocarcinoma patients. We isolated mutant strains from Staphylococcus aureus after mutagenization. These mutants produced high levels of extracellular protein A (102_??_205μg/ml). Protein A from the mutant strains were purified by IgG-affinity chromatography followed by millipore filtration. The molecular weight of the protein A was lower than that of parental protein A by SDS-PAGE.
