Abstract

Many legislations have focused on providing legal aid to vulnerable categories in society in order to ensure their access to the justice system. The experiences of countries in providing this service differed in terms of beneficiaries, the scope of intervention, and application mechanisms, taking into account their economic and social conditions. To view the various experiences, the College of Law at Qatar University chose to hold its international conference for this year under the title: "Legal Aid: Means and Challenges", which was held on March 21 and 22, 2022, in cooperation with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime. A number of researchers from universities and research centers from all over the world participated in this conference, and this special issue of the International Review of Law was keen to publish a number of peer-reviewed papers presented at the conference. The first paper, (Muhammad Hussein Muhammad Hilal) evaluates "the Role of Legal Aid in Establishing the Principle of Social Justice - A Comparative Study in the light of Comparative Legal Systems." As for the second research paper (Ibrahim Abdelaziz Daoud), it studies "Legal Aid under Civil Law: Concept and Standards." The third research study (Chaker Mzoughi) focuses on the "Children Legal Aid for Access to Justice towards Attaining Basic Rights.” As for the fourth research paper (Samah Khemane), it dealt with the research "Legislative Reform of the Legal Aid System in French Law." While the fifth research paper (Abdullah Hamad Al-Khaldi) seeks to shed light on "The Legal Aid System within the Scope of Civil Law." The interest of the sixth research paper (Nasr Aboul Fotouh Farid Hassan) is on "Forms of Legal Aid: (the Emirati Experience as a Model)." While the seventh research paper, (Yusra Ahmad Tawfiq Al-Yabroudi) was related to "Jurisprudential Rules and their Impact on strengthening Legal Aid System, Applied Study in Islamic Legislation." While the eighth research paper (Ernest Ojukwu, SAN and Mahmud Yusuf) focuses on "Mapping the Role of Law Clinics under the Legal Aid Act of Nigeria." As for the ninth research paper (Mhd Ekbal Ezzedeen Anak), it focuses on the "Legal Assistance to Women’s Rights to Housing, Land and Property in Syria." The present IRL issue is concluded by stating (Mohamed Yehia Mattar) the recommendations emanating from the conference. The Editorial Board thanks all the researchers who participated in the conference and contributed to its success with their presentations and discussions. It also commends the efforts of the scientific committee of the conference, the supervisors of the organization of this international conference, and all the participants. The editorial family hopes that readers will find in this issue something that enriches their passion for law.
