Abstract
Metal fever syndrome has been characterized in general in current review. When casting some metals, workers may develop a peculiar symptoms complex, which is primarily characterized by the appearance of significant hyperthermia — metal fever. Synonyms are “foundry”, “zinc” or “teflon” fever. In this case, metal fever should be considered as a manifestation of a non-specific effect of metal. Foundry fever takes the form of an acute attack that has three periods. It is due to the effect of a highly dispersed aerosol of molten metals with a particle size of less than one micron on the respiratory tract. A distinction is made between the latent, prodromal period and the actual fever (true fever). In general, attacks of metal fever have a mild course, but the development of complications in the form of focal pneumonia or toxic pulmonary edema is possible. Treatment of the disease is symptomatic. Key words: metal fever, metal casting, acute course, treatment.
