Abstract
The article reviews the problems of the establishment of new understanding of the system of traces in Russian criminalistics. The authors suggest a classifi cation of "trace cores", which is a term introduced in the scholarly dispute, and analyze the content of "trace cores" (information cells). A classifi cation of "trace cores" will give practitioners a better understanding of what traces are to be searched for in the investigation of certain crime types. This will improve the crime investigation effi ciency.
