Abstract
The metabolic syndrome is gaining reputation as an important risk factor for major chronic diseases. Depression is prevalent among women and has been associated with variety of diseases. therefore, metabolic syndrome and depression are becoming an important health problem in elderly women. In this study, the metabolic syndrome were based on the guidelines of the National Cholesterol Education Program Adult Treatment Panel Ⅲ. The purpose of the study was to investigate the effect of resistance exercise training on metabolic syndrome risk factor and depression in old women The participants included 18 elderly women(68.16± 2.03), Each individual was assessed for metabolic syndrome according to the NECP-ATP Ⅲ critera. Depressive symptoms level were assessed by the Center for Epidemiological Studies-Depression Scale(CES-D). The result of this study were as follows. 12 weeks resistance exercise training had a positive influence in blood glucose (p.001) but had not a positive effect in waist circumstance, TG, HDL-C, blood pressure and depression level. In conclusion, the 12 weeks resistance exercise training had a positive effects on blood glucose, metabolic syndrome in elderly women.
