Abstract

This work introduces to the scientific circulation the materials obtained during the study of burial mound No. 1 of the Krasny Kamen’ burial ground, which belongs to the rarest category of monumental burial-ritual complexes of the Early Bronze period of the Khakassko-Minusinsk depression. The onlycomplete analogue of this site is the Tuim-Koltso barrow, investigated by L.R. Kyzlasov. Complex Red Stone (mound number 1) consisted of a funeral fence, decorated with additional diagonal masonry, and contained 12 graves. To the east of the fence was a ritual-memorial site. Both were contoured by a ring about 60 m in diameter made of separately standing stone menhirs with a center at the intersection of diagonals. In the course of the excavations, in addition to the traditional accompanying inventory, a number of unique items have been discovered: a bone crest with an anthropomorphic face and a set of stone tools, including one with the animal’s head. Materials of burial mound No. 1 of the Krasny Kamen’ burial ground make it possible to single out and characterize a separate chronological horizon of the Okunevskaya culture occupying an intermediate position at the junction of the Uybatsky and Chernovsky stages. Based on the results of radiocarbon dating,it can be attributed to the 23th – 22th centuries BC.
