Abstract

This article deals with gestural representation of the concept «happiness» in the discourses of French and Russian university students. The concept is defined as a set of all types of knowledge – from the everyday notions to scientific notions and each level of concept should be analyzed separately. This article is devoted to the everyday notions of «happiness» in gestures of French and Russian students by means of gesture analysis. This method consists of three steps: identifying of a gesture unit, shape analysis and interpretation of a gesture. Comparative analysis revealed the representative gesture group as the most frequent in this research. An analysis of the material found the «gesture of happiness», which characterizes the generalized movement of both hands from the bottom up, shape of hemisphere. The «gesture of happiness» has the specific representation and interpretation in the discourses of French and Russian university students.
