Abstract

The aim of this paper is to obtain fundamental knowledge of housing refurbishment by residents. We focus on the actual state of Tama New Town area, developed in the 1970's. The research method consists of questionnaire survey covering all dwelling units as well as of field survey at several dwellings who accepted it. Through our analysis become clear 1) main characteristics of refurbishment and difference seen between rented flats and owner occupied ones, 2) importance of conversion of facilities for kitchen and bath units, 3) difference in the state of housing refurbishment by dwelling unit area.
