Abstract

Introduction. It is established that due to the use of synthetic wax additives, it is possible to reduce the process temperatures of asphalt mix production, as well as to reduce the harmful effects on the environment and fuel consumption on their production. Problem statement. The work is devoted to the problem of increasing the heat resistance of bitumen and reducing the process temperatures of asphalt mixes production. Purpose. Determination of the dependence of the content of the additive based on synthetic waxes on the heat resistance of bitumen and its processing properties. Materials and methods. As the objects of the study of oil paving viscous bitumen of BND 60/90 grade (initial), modified with 1,0 %, 2,0 % and 3,0 % synthetic wax additives, and equi-penetration bitumen of BND 40/60 grade with the penetration value which is close to the bitumen penetration modified with 3.0 % of synthetic wax additive were taken. To determine the heat resistance of the bitumen, its softening point was determined by the ring and ball method, the equi-penetration softening point and the dynamic viscosity at the softening point was also determined by the ring and ball method. To determine the processing properties of bitumen on the basis of the dependence of the bitumen viscosity on the temperature, the mixing temperatures of bitumen and aggregates during the production of asphalt mixes and the temperature of the beginning of their compaction were determined. Results. The influence of the additive content on the basis of synthetic waxes on the operational and processing properties of bitumen is investigated. It was established that the additive based on synthetic wax increases the heat resistance of bitumen at the softening point by the ring and ball method and the dynamic viscosity at the softening point by the ring and the ball method. In this case, the equi-penetration temperature of softening is not changed. There is also a decrease in the dynamic viscosity of bitumen at the process temperatures. Conclusions. Experimental research has proved the possibility of increasing the heat resistance of bitumen by using the additive based on synthetic waxes and the possibility of reducing the process temperatures of production and compaction of asphalt mixes at (25-30 °C) (in comparison with the process temperatures of production and compaction of asphalt mixes on based on the equi-penetration bitumen).
