Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of the TMJ abnormalities on velocity of chewing movement. The analysis of the velocity was performed in 140 patients with stomatognathic dysfunction and 25 normal subjects using Sirognathograph Analysing System (SGG/AS).The results were as follow:1. The dispersion of the velocity was significantly observed in both opening and closing phase of chewing movement of the subjects with stomatognathic dysfunction. This dispersion was remarkably observed in the non-abnormal side chewing.2. Characteristic decrease of the velocity was observed in the opening phase of the nonabnormal side chewing of the subjects with stomatognathic dysfunction.3. The maximum opening and closing velocity of the subjects with stomatognathic dysfunction was significantly slower than that of the normal subjects.
