Abstract

This paper analyzes retail structure in 20 local cities of Hokuriku-Koshin-Etsu area from the viewpoint of stock balance of retail floor space between DID of 1965 and suburbs. Compared 1979 and 1997, flow became enormous for stock and flow almost concentrated in suburbs. Conversely many cities recorded minus flow in DID of 1965. These maldistribution causes to need balance control of retail stock. According to 'retail floor ratio for 5km range stock' and 'retail floor space for one person', which are indicators measured stock balance, predominance of DID of 1965 much decreased against the level of 1979. Characteristics of retail centrality from these 2 indicators are 4 types in 1997. It is appropriate to maintain predominance of central area along several type of retail centrality.
