Abstract

The purpose of the research is to study and scientifically substantiate the impact of a multidisciplinary system of early physical therapy on the quality of life of patients with multiple sclerosis complicated by dystrophic lesions of the lumbosacral spine. Methods. We examined 47 people (main group) with multiple sclerosis complicated by myofascial pain syndrome at the lumbosacral level, who underwent a course of early FT in the inpatient stage. This group included 25 women and 22 men. The average age of patients was 43.2±5.4 years. Clinical research methods (assessment of neurological status and limitation of vital activity according to functional classes), McGill pain questionnaire, VAS visual analog scale, quality of life assessment (MOS SF-36 questionnaire – Medical Outcomes Study Short Form-) were used for expert-rehabilitation diagnostics. 36). At the beginning and at the end of the FT course, QOL was assessed using the MOS SF-36 questionnaire, which contains 36 questions combined into 8 scales. From physiotherapeutic methods of influence magneto-laser therapy, darsonvalization, sinusoidal modulated currents, electrophoresis of analgesics, resorbing drugs, neurotrophic means, electro-stimulation of the weakened muscles, heat treatment, at a final stage FT – massage and local cryotherapy were applied. Active physical therapy was performed on the background of supportive drug therapy: vascular-regu-lating drugs, muscle relaxants, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, neurotransmitters, chondroprotectors. Results. After the course of physical therapy, quality of life indicators increased on all scales. This is primarily due to the improvement of physical (46.3 points) and general (58.2 points) condition, which contributed to the stabilization of the emotional background (58.9 points) and became the basis for the normalization of role and social functioning (36.8 and 61.3 points respectively). Conclusion. A multidisciplinary approach to physical therapy of patients with multiple sclerosis complicated by myofascial pain and dystrophic lesions of the lumbosacral spine, helps to normalize their physical, emotional and general condition, which improves social activity and role functioning in patients. Keywords: multiple sclerosis, quality of life, myofascial pain syndrome, physical therapy.
