Abstract

In order to reduce heat island effects in cities, this paper presents experimental measurements of absorption characteristics of solar energy on spray painted rough surfaces, ceramic wall tiles, colored plastic sheet, concrete, asphalt, stone and brick. It is found that the solar energy absorption characteristics are well correlated by the brightness index of the surfaces. And the solar energy absorption decreases with increase of surface brightness indices of the materials.
