Abstract

The purpose of this study is to present specific alternatives for effective competency education and assessment, focusing on social studies competency. The competency assessment alternatives covered in this study can be divided into 1) meaning of competency, 2) element of competency, 3) level of competency, and 4) consideration when designing competency assessment. First, the substance of what the meaning of social studies competency is and what elements are composed of was summarized. Therefore, we tried to find out what it was like to exercise competence in detail. Next, the level for each sub-factor of competency was set to present a standard for how competency develops step by step. Since competencies have overall and step-by-step characteristics, elements that make up competencies are also presented step by step. This is because only then can students be provided with appropriate feedback according to the assessment results. Finally, based on the consideration when designing competency assessment, Competency assessment design methods and assessment examples were presented. Although the importance of competency education has been emphasized, Specifically, it is meaningful in that it presents a plan that can be easily applied in the field, focusing not only on the curriculum system or teaching and learning, but also on the assessment of competencies that have been relatively neglected.
