Abstract
This paper proposes a topology optimization method for the coupled magnetic-structure problems, in which the electromagnetic force is calculated based on the area integral of the electromagnetic stress. Since topology optimization method is useful to design functional structures, some previous studies have been reported for the case of the coupled system of the magnetic and structure field. One is proposed based on the density approach. In this approach, the presence of intermediate density causes a problem in the calculation of electromagnetic stress. The level set based previous study tried to solve this problem by using a gray scale-free level set topology optimization method. However, there has been a problem in the numerical implementation because the level set based previous study uses a boundary integral method of the electromagnetic force. Therefore, this paper proposes gray scale-free level set topology optimization method in which the electromagnetic force is calculated based on the area integral of the electromagnetic stress. The usefulness of the proposed method is confirmed using some numerical examples.
