Abstract

The monograph is devoted to the subject identification of the new institutional economics (NIE) as a Lakatosian scientific research program. The first chapter compares the methodology of scientific research programs with competing approaches and justifies its use for systematizing the achievements of the NIE. The second chapter characterizes NIE as a progressive research program: its hard core and protective belt are identified, and the methodological status of NIE among other research programs of economic science is determined. The third chapter establishes promising areas of research within the protective belt of NIE, identifies opportunities for expanding the boundaries of the distribution of its tools and opportunities for interaction with other scientific research programs both in the field of economics and in related fields of science.
