Abstract
The study of “deer” stones in Mongolia began in the late 19th century, and many research papers have already been published. In 2021, a three-volume illustrated catalog “The Сulture of Deer Stones of Mongolia and Neighboring Regions” was published, which contains information about 1318 ancient sculptures. Based on this publication, the author of this article prepared information about the “deer” stones located in the Khangai Mountains of Central Mongolia. Surveys are constantly conducted in this region, but special studies of ancient statues have not yet been done, so there are prospects for the discovery of new “deer” stones. In this article we will talk about the process of discovering and studying “deer” stones and provide new facts. This data analysis is important for our future research. There are 592 such statues recorded in Central Mongolia. New methods and documentation technologies will be utilized to study them in detail, which will significantly expand our knowledge of the ancient nomadic cultures of Inner Asia.
